Your gift of a single olive tree is important to our Earth as well as to the small farmer who will plant it, and the harvest that family will reap in future years. For those who wish to contribute we thank you with the reminder that a single olive tree can live to be 2,500 years old and one such olive tree was recently consumed by fire in Evvia, Greece.

but could use a helping hand from their neighbors around the world –

Each tree costs $4.75 and will be planted in the environs of  ANCIENT OLYMPIA

We gratefully acknowledge all contributions made in advance of our efforts to replant 80,000 olive trees in Olympia, Greece, as a gesture of good will and respect for our shared cultural legacy. 

The Arete Fund is operating under the auspices of Nektarios Farmakis, Governor of the Western Region of Greece. In the blackened rolling hills surrounding Olympia the farmers, all small family farmers, have lost their livelihoods. 450,000 trees were damaged or destroyed. Our goal is to repurchase trees to help them get back on their feet, The Arete Fund’s purchase of the 80,000 olive trees is in partnership with the Greek government in the Western Region of Greece that will manage the clearing and preparation of the land, and the planting of the trees.

This is a multi-national effort to restore to Ancient Olympia, Greece, 80,000 olive trees without which thousands of small farmers and the families are deprived of their livelihood and our earth receives another body blow due to climate change.
